Carthography: Kaneza Schaal & Christopher Myers
What are the journeys you have made? What maps guided you through?
Four young migrants discover what it means to leave home and begin fresh in this new work designed for audiences both young and old. How do we navigate worlds? We build maps of our histories, our memories and our futures.
Combining simple storytelling with interactive video technology, Cartography maps the dangerous journeys which brought four young people from their old homes to their new ones. Performed by a diverse company of actors from El Salvador, Syria, Lebanon and Rwanda, this is theatre for our times, theatre for all ages and theatre at its most relevant.
Cartography engages audiences with amazing visual tools like map-making and inventory along with performance elements such as film making and dancing. Sculptures create an array of visual journeys; sound sensors respond to actors’ voices, activating a virtual storm; and cellphones are used to mark memories and distances traveled.
